WHICH LABELS TO CHOOSE

Self adhesive labels typically come in two categories. Thermal Transfer & Direct Thermal.

Thermal Transfer Labels:

A thermal transfer ribbon is required when printing onto thermal transfer labels. The printead on your printer makes the ink from the ribbon bind to the labels. Thermal tranfser labels are the correct choice when your labels are going to need to withstand scratches, chemicals, moisture and sunlight.

Direct Thermal Labels:

No ribbon is required when using direct thermal labels. DT labels feature a heat sensitive coating. When the printhead on your printer makes contact with the label, the image is burned on to it - in a similar fashion to a fax machine. Direct thermal labels are sensitive to sunlight, heat and pressure and should only be used for general-purpose use.
